Eerie Vintage Headwear!!!

It's Halloween season! Most of us will get into the spooky spirit of things at some stage. Whether it's going out in full costume for a major party, carving a pumpkin or answering the door to the hoards of candy crazed mini zombies!
Either way it's hard to escape Halloween as it's popularity grows each year.
I came across these unusual and quite freaky vintage images on Pinterest and what better time of the year to show them than the run up to the big Witching Hour itself!
The first few images have definitely been photo-shopped, I'm not sure about the cat one but they're so bizarre I had to share!
The last image is an actual hat from the 1940's.

Inspired by The Designer: Nina Ricci

It's not uncommon for us to come across vintage dresses that are similar to those of well known designers. Like now, trends were important throughout the decades and dictated what women wanted the fashion houses to create.

Some of these designers will be known to most, such as Chanel and Christian Dior.  Others you might recognise the name but are unfamiliar with their creations .

Perfumes might spring to mind when thinking of the name Nina Ricci, but she was actually a fabulous designer who opened her couture house with her son in 1932. The design house is still creating beautiful pieces to this day.

Below is an image of an original Nina Ricci dress from 1966 and one we currently have in store which is very similar in style.

1966 dress by Nina Ricci

Our dress is by Robert Strong for the department store B. Siegel Company in Detroit. The fabric is a slightly quilted cream brocade which is decorated with a pearl, bead and rhinestone trim.
The mermaid shaped skirt is ultra flattering.
This two-piece gown would be ideal for a Winter wedding. It has all the glamorous touches that are typical of the 1960's.

Our fabulous gown is available now in store or on Open For Vintage

Real Wedding: You Have To See This Stylish Couple!!!

Oh these wedding photos give me bridal style envy! Our uber-cool bride, Jumoke chose a classic 1950's suit with an ivory brocade wiggle dress and matching cropped bolero.
It's a classically timeless suit and she has completely made it her own with a pair of fab sunglasses from Harlequin and jewellery from Jenny Vander.
A big congrats to Jumoke and her equally dapper hubby!

Arm Candy Alert!!!

It really doesn't matter what we're doing, or where we're going, the one thing we always seem to need is a handbag! My day to day one is always huge!
Big enough to hold work notes, LOTS of make-up, various Lego pieces and accouterments for my two boys, wallet, phone and maybe even a spare pair of shoes and/or a book! I'm often told that it's heavier than a bag of bricks!
But, for a special event I like to scale it waaaay back to just some eye-liner, concealer, bank card and of course that extra appendage we'd all be lost without...my phone! That's when I can really get away with a dainty evening bag.
I find that vintage bags often come in the perfect size, not too petite, not too bulky. Those refined 1950's ladies knew how to carry all their important items around with style and panache!
Below are is just a few of the vintage bags from the 1930's to 1960's that are currently in stock in Dirty Fabulous.
The prices of our bags range from about €60 to €180

Real Bride: Totally Adorable!

These wedding photos from our bride, Catherine are absolutely darling! Doesn't she and her hubby just look so sweet, and super stylish.
Catherine chose one of our tea length vintage style wedding dresses, along with a tulle and lace cropped top, which had a super pretty crystal button back.
We added an underskirt for a touch of volume and an original 1960's headpiece with bespoke birdcage veil for a touch of vintage glamour.
We're loving these pics!
Congratulations to Catherine and her new hubby.
Thanks so much for sharing your pictures!

The Allure of Netting

Vintage veiled hats come in many guises from the chic and simple:

To the elaborate and extravagant:

And everything else in between:

There is something endlessly sensual about wearing black net or veiling over the face. It could be the sense of mystery it adds to the wearer. It could be that you feel like your dressing up and playing a part which adds a sense of drama to your outfit. Either way it's an alluring look and I guarantee it'll vamp up any outfit!
