Autumn/Winter 09 Fashion Trends Go Vintage!

I just love the start of a new fashion season, I can't wait to see what collections today's designers have produced. Inevitably they do hark back to bygone eras, whether it's taking inspiration from Victoriana lace, Elizabethan ruffs or atomic era prints and Autumn/Winter 09 was no different...
The catwalk was awash with 30's style velvet gowns, 40's inspired tailored suits and 80's Avant Garde structures from striking shoulders to lame bows!
If the price tag of modern designers seems untouchable, vintage couture tailoring offers an affordable alternative without scrimping on the quality, just take a peak...

J'adore Dior!!! This had to be my favourite collection this season. It was oozing with jewel colours, delicate chiffon's and the most amazing china doll make up.
Here at Dirty Fabulous we always look out for vintage fabrics in rich colours so in keeping with this seasons trends expect to see lots of raspberry, teals and cobalt's in dresses from the 50's and 60's.

The 80's were every where in this seasons shows. We're not the biggest fan of that decade (living through it once was enough!) but we do love some of the big shapes and striking features. The 80's is not for the faint hearted but for a party dress with impact it's hard to beat!

Prada

Marc Jacobs

Here we see the return of velvet and chic tailoring. For similar vintage looks go for sublimely cut suits from the 40's and 50's.

Woweee you just have to love a statement coat! As the evenings unfortunately get a little shorter and cooler it may be time to think about investing in a fabulous yet snuggly coat.
We've had so many requests lately that we will definitely be stocking up in some show stopping coats to enable our customers to look uber glamorous when battling the elements.

Ellie Saab

This dress is a true reflection of 1930's glamour. The draped silhouette is not for everyone as it can be pretty unforgiving. The Dirty Fabulous vintage dress pictured above will give the same wow factor whilst hiding any bumps us girlies may have!

Lame, fur and elegance...what a combination! The subtle sparkle of metallic fabrics give an instant lift to any dress. We tend to look for these fabrics from the 50's and 60's...just Gorgeous!

Launch of Franc Wedding Secrets magazine

Last week saw the launch of wedding guru Peter Kelly aka Franc's wedding magazine.
This bridal bible is set to be full of tips on how to have a fabulous wedding no matter what your budget or personal style. And wouldn't you know Dirty Fabulous got a sneak peak at the launch which featured one of our very own 1950's New Look vintage prom dresses (pictured centre).
Have a look at the Xpose link for all the goss...

Things to do...

Last weekend myself and the hubby snuck off on a super deal offered by Kilronan Castle in Co. Roscommon.
For €99 we got a lovely big room, breakfast for two and and I had a lovely massage, total bargain! I'm partial to the odd castle and this offer seemed too good to pass up.
The Castle in question is set on a lake and has been quite recently refurbished. It does seem quite Americanised but it's super relaxing with a lovely pool.
This offer is happening for the summer months so check it out:

There's plenty on this weekend so if you're at a loose end here are a few options.
The Dublin Flea Market happens the last Sunday of every month in The Coop, Newmarket, D8.
This is great fun and has such a chilled atmosphere it's worth going for a look even if you're counting the pennies. Music, goodies and oddities galore. Loving all things quirky we here at Dirty Fabulous highly recommend it!
If that doesn't tickle your fancy then head out to Dun Laoghaire for the Festival of World Cultures this Saturday or Sunday. We usually head out to this en mass with family and friends. We've never been disappointed with this, the food alone is worth the Dart trip out!
Whatever you're planning this weekend grab some loved ones, have some fun some rain or shine, you know you deserve it!

Fashion Bloggers Brunching in Harvey Nichols

Sunday the 16th saw the one year anniversary of the Fashion Bloggers Brunch which was celebrated in style courtesy of Harvey Nichols First Floor Restaurant and the organisation skills of Annmarie O Connor.
The food was devine, the company excellent and the goodie bags...lust worthy!!!
We started of the brunch with Bellini's, a perfect way to kick off any day. Next followed granola and berries with a touch of mint.
After this was the most gorgeous assiette plate of tasty brunchy morsels (see the drool worthy pic above). If these dishes weren't enough there was skewered beef with truffle mash, sumptuous desserts and one of the best coffee's I've ever had (tasted like chocolate), all washed down with a glass or two of wine!
It was my first time in Harvey Nichols restaurant and I loved it, the service was impeccable(a big thank you to Michael), the food delish and we were lulled into a post food serenity with live soothy jazz tunes.
The conversation meandered through topics such as Charlie Sheens dubious good looks, the upcoming launch of Aisling McDermotts' new book the beaut.ie Guide to Gorgeous and the pros and cons of false eyelashes brought on by the addition of such beauties in our goody bags!
Lastly we dived into the treasure trove of said bags and found them brimming with much needed essentials. It was like Harvey Nichols had read my mind (and my shopping list!).
There was the blusher I desperately needed, a bag full of sun care products from Liz Earle (perfect travel size for Tuscany), James Brown heat protection spray for my blown to death fringey locks, disco eyelashes (Tuscany again!) and Collagen Marshmallows (although not on my list, I was just as happy to have them).
After all this we left on a high, swinging our Harvey Nichols shopping bags and went to straight to Penny's to stock up on tights...

Dirty Fabulous goings on!

I have to say Dirty Fabulous was super social last weekend and as we usually work six days a week it was lovely to kick back and relax!
That's not to say that vintage wasn't at the forefront of our minds though...

Caroline enjoyed a late Fashion Bloggers Brunch in the tasty Marks and Spencers roof top restaurant www.marksandspencer.com/. She whiled away a few hours indulging in fabulous treats and bubbles and catching up with fellow bloggers from www.iblogfashion.blogspot.com/ and www.beaut.ie/blog/ to name a few. She had a blast and I was sorry I missed it but I was....
Here...
I was representing the Dirty Fabulous contingency, along with another loyal follower and super friend, at a wedding in the West. Shocking I know but we actually had a really sunny day for it!
We all had a ball eating, drinking and dancing.
There's nothing like getting dressed up in a beautiful vintage frock and celebrating with friends!
