Spotlight On Vintage: 1940's Dusky Blue Lace Gown

This weeks vintage treasure is an evening dress that even Veronica Lake would have swooned over! The dress is made of a dusky blue lace over lavender lining. It has an illusion top (very popular at the time) and matching belt.

I love the elegance of this dress which would have been created in the late 1940's. The lace is truly beautiful, very intricate with some slight signs of aging. But this dress is over 70 years old and over-all in in remarkable condition. I'm pretty sure when I'm over 70 I'll be showing more that some slight signs of age!!!

This is a gown that brings it's vintage "A"game!

Cat eye sunglasses available from ASOS

JLo has been showing of some sophisticated threads lately. She's probably known most for her bling-tastic, figure revealing gowns and she's one smokin' hot mama so why the hell not!

Bu you know us, we're fans of ladylike glamour.
Ms. Lopez recently stepped out in this peach number and we just love it!

Our original vintage 1960's hostess gown is an absolute ringer in terms of colour and has some unique tailoring features, something it share's with JLo's mid length dress.
Wear it with some cat eye sunglasses, big hold-all bag and pastel stilletos.

You're now ready for that fabulous summer soiree you have coming up!

Spotlight On Vintage: 1960's Cadoro Necklace

"Cadoro" late 60's ivory beaded necklace with gold pressed, scroll leaves, decorated with mint green and baby blue ceramic flowers.

This is an incredible statement necklace from a great collectible vintage designer. It's a very wearable piece in pastel shades with a touch of golden glamour.
Based in New York, Cadoro was founded two friends Steven Brody and Daniel Stoenescu in 1954. Their jewellery was sold in luxury stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus.
Apparently their motto was "Famous jewelry for the rich and famous!".

Cadoro became known for their inventive jewellery which was handcrafted using traditional crystals, gold and silver toned metals, beautiful rhinestones and glass crystals from all over the world, seed pearls and stones from the ocean. They were determined to use only the finest sources for their pieces.

Cador's customers included Wallis Simpson (The Duchess of Windsor) and Barbara Streisand. The company closed in 1987 and some of their collection are preserved in New York's Metropolitan Museum and The Museum of Modern Art.
This label is highly prized by vintage collectors as the jewellery was produced in limited numbers and is quite rare and unusual.

We're absolutely delighted to stock this piece of vintage design history as I don't think we'll come across another!

Our fabulous Cadoro necklace is €290.

Spotlight on Vintage: 1940's Novelty Print Suit

We literally squealed with glee when this 1940's suit arrived from America. Novelty prints are hugely popular with vintage followers and they can be quite rare.
This gorgeous little number features a silk print of Art Deco style sports people.... random right?

But that's the joy of novelty prints. They became fashionable in the 1940's and 50's possibly as a form of whimsical expression after the fraught and lenient war years.
This suit has a chic brown cropped jacket with a printed pussy bow closure. It's an absolute darling! We've added a pair of 1950's chartreuse, ruched gloves in one picture that compliments the print itself.

Spotlight on Vintage: Saint Laurent Vintage Floral Dress

We're all familiar with the brand YSL or Yves Saint Laurent, it's synonymous as one of the largest, luxury brands of our time.
Yves Saint Laurent was formed in 1961 and their ready to wear collection was labelled Saint Laurent Rive Gauche.
Our gorgeous water colour floral print dress is from this same label.

It has a spectacular Bardot neckline that's all the rage now. This fabulous number is a 1980's dress disguised as a 1950's one but without seeing the label it would be hard for someone to guess the era.
The print itself has soft pastel tones that are reminiscent of Monet's water lilies paintings.
Did you know that a few years ago Yves Saint Laurent re-branded their clothing back to Saint Laurent? It caused a bit of a stir in the fashion world but they did keep the YSL logo for their cosmetics and accessories.

This stunning designer dress was be an incredible addition to any vintage mavens wardrobe.
It's available to buy in store or on Open For Vintage. You lucky gals!!!

Real Wedding - 1930's Goddess!

Gosh Darn it... Michelle looks mind-blowingly beautiful in one of our 1930's vintage wedding dresses, I mean come on!!!
Her hair and make-up are pure perfection.
Like many 1930s wedding dresses this one originally had a higher neckline which Michelle had lowered and adapted the sheer lace panel on the back.
This could be my favourite vintage bridal look in quite a while... Thanks for sharing Michelle!

Summer Time Fashion: Vintage-Style

Dressing for hot weather can be tricky. I'm not a huge fan of the maxi dress having over-indulged in them during two pregnancies, I feel it's best we part ways!
I'm also keen to keep my thighs covered so shorts are an absolute no-no. Which is why vintage clothing is a God-send for me. Que chic capri pants, full circle skirts and lightweight cotton florals.
This year I'll be armed and ready for any hot weather and holidays with a mulitude of tea-length dresses and midi-skirts that cover everything I want but are bright and airy... bring on the next heatwave!

For some inspiration have a look at these original vintage images from the 1950's and then some of our summery dresses in currently in stock:

A Vintage Affair!

I already know you are going to adore these images from real Dirty Fabulous bride Rachel! They are so effortlessly stylish with a vintage flair. Keep reading to find out all the details...

Rachel & Marcel fell in love over a mutual appreciation for 1950’s music, Ray Charles in particular! The vintage loving couple married in Derry, Northern Ireland and both were determined to have a unique and memorable wedding that reflected them and their children’s favourite things.

The bride, Rachel had a very specific vision for her big day which began with finding her wedding dress at Dirty Fabulous. She knew came to us with a strong idea of her dress in mind: a classic, timeless tea length dress with upper arm coverage, a pinched in waist and no satin!
We had a few dresses ready and waiting for Rachel's appointment but when she tried on the very first one she fell in love!
There were tears when Rachel tried the dress on again with her Mum and we knew we were onto a winner. We teamed the look with one our bespoke bridal sashes and a sheer tulle veil for the perfect vintage look.

I love how fun these images are by Y-Control Photography, they capture the whole vibe of the wedding day.
The couple partied the night away with some signature vintage cocktails and Rachel told us how her fabulous dress was a major talking point during the night!

A huge congratulations to Rachel and Marcel on their recent wedding!
