Spotlight On Vintage: 1940's Dusky Blue Lace Gown

This weeks vintage treasure is an evening dress that even Veronica Lake would have swooned over! The dress is made of a dusky blue lace over lavender lining. It has an illusion top (very popular at the time) and matching belt.

I love the elegance of this dress which would have been created in the late 1940's. The lace is truly beautiful, very intricate with some slight signs of aging. But this dress is over 70 years old and over-all in in remarkable condition. I'm pretty sure when I'm over 70 I'll be showing more that some slight signs of age!!!

This is a gown that brings it's vintage "A"game!

Coveting Vintage Necklines!

When did our necklines become so boring?
The Highstreet can't possibly compete with these beautiful necklines as mass production just doesn't allow the time and precision necessary to create such beautiful seams and detailing.
If you are hunting for a dress that has an unusual neckline then you have a few options:
Designer dresses, bespoke dresses or vintage dresses (my fav obv's!)
Below are just a few images I came across from the 1940's and 50's that have left me drooling over my laptop!
I WANT THEM ALL....

Vivacious Velvet!

Is there a more decadent, sumptuous fabric than velvet? If there is I can't think of it!

Currently, my house is filled with velvet touches that extend past the vintage dresses I own. I've velvet cushions, throws, armchairs and even curtains in various rooms and I can thank the growing trend for velvet in fashion for influencing my interior choices!

For decades designers have chosen to create fabulous gowns and coats in velvet. The denseness of the fabric allows a really deep pigmentation and it just screams luxurious quality!

From the 1920's onwards, costumers in Hollywood knew what they were doing when they chose to dress their leading ladies in silk velvet gowns. Before the days of technicolour, cinema-goers could look on in awe as the starlets glided on screen in velvet lusciousness!

Prepare to salivate over these original vintage velvet creations...
