Spotlight on Vintage: Saint Laurent Vintage Floral Dress

We're all familiar with the brand YSL or Yves Saint Laurent, it's synonymous as one of the largest, luxury brands of our time.
Yves Saint Laurent was formed in 1961 and their ready to wear collection was labelled Saint Laurent Rive Gauche.
Our gorgeous water colour floral print dress is from this same label.

It has a spectacular Bardot neckline that's all the rage now. This fabulous number is a 1980's dress disguised as a 1950's one but without seeing the label it would be hard for someone to guess the era.
The print itself has soft pastel tones that are reminiscent of Monet's water lilies paintings.
Did you know that a few years ago Yves Saint Laurent re-branded their clothing back to Saint Laurent? It caused a bit of a stir in the fashion world but they did keep the YSL logo for their cosmetics and accessories.

This stunning designer dress was be an incredible addition to any vintage mavens wardrobe.
It's available to buy in store or on Open For Vintage. You lucky gals!!!

David Bowie an Icon to Remember

It's inevitable as time passes that we lose people who have featured in our lives. Whether these are people who are dear to us or those who's lives we've been lucky enough to witness without ever having met, it is always sad. Despite knowing that we can't hold back the hands of time we're inevitably shocked when someone dies. We feel the loss of something we never knew we had to lose.
Rightfully, David Bowie was always considered a ground breaking artist and an icon. He'll remain a legend in the music and fashion world forever.
Rest in peace Mr. Bowie.
Our love and respect are with your family, friends and fans.

YSL or Saint Laurent, doesn't matter... it's fabulous!!!

You'd be pretty hard pushed to find anyone who hadn't heard of YSL or Yves Saint Laurent. I for one am addicted to their cosmetic range, particularly the Touche Eclat highlighter pen. It's a permanent fixture in my make-up bag!

But did you know the original ready to wear brand was called Saint Laurent Rive Gauche and it has since reverted back to this name.

In our most recent collection we have acquired this incredible off-the-shoulder cocktail dress by Saint Laurent. It's a 1980's creation that takes it's inspiration from the form fitting shapes of the 1950's. In fact, Yves Saint Laurent began his career as an assistant to Christian Dior before he established his own design house.

Now, who wouldn't love to own a little piece of fashion history?

Our Saint Laurent dress is a size 6-8 and is €410

Fashion Repeating - Episode 1!

I thought I would do a series of posts about the cyclical nature of fashion and how certain things never go out of style (or if it does, it's not long before it's back!)
Whether its a cut, silhouette, colour combination or overall look, the following have crossed decades and in certain cases, centuries!

For the first post in this series - I'm mad for plaid!!

And you really can't mention tartan without a nod to.....
Vivienne Westwood 1980's

Linda Evangelista in Christian Lacroix 1990

Alexander Mc Queen 2006
(note the bustle silhouette, very similar to the 1880s dress!)

And to finish up...
2012 - Rhianna looking positively demure!

Raid your wardrobes ladies, tartan was all over the Autumn / Winter 2012 Catwalks!

1980's Party People

Aren't we stylish!!!

A little bit Tokyo Cute, a little bit 80's Ra-ra

Me and my shoulder pads later left the party to go play American Football!

Oh The 80's...How I love to hate you...

While Dirty Fabulous relocates I find myself with a lot more time on my hands, in particular my weekends are free, I temporarily get to do what most people have always been doing...seeing friends!

This weekend I was at my best friends 30th in Wexford. 1980's was the theme, scary yes...fun...definitely!

1980s fashion is big at the minute on the high street so it was hard not to look too current. But everyone put in a big effort, there where some Fame girls, Guns & Roses members, Jimmy Saville, many Miami Vicers (hilarious!) and so on.

I got my dress in a charity shop and made the shoulder pads and military chains. It was worth the effort because I won The Best Dressed!!! I was highly chuffed!

While fashion might have had a nervous breakdown in the 80's music hit one of it's brightest era's and so the dancing on the night was EPIC.

A fab night was had by all
