Inspired by The Designer: Nina Ricci

It's not uncommon for us to come across vintage dresses that are similar to those of well known designers. Like now, trends were important throughout the decades and dictated what women wanted the fashion houses to create.

Some of these designers will be known to most, such as Chanel and Christian Dior.  Others you might recognise the name but are unfamiliar with their creations .

Perfumes might spring to mind when thinking of the name Nina Ricci, but she was actually a fabulous designer who opened her couture house with her son in 1932. The design house is still creating beautiful pieces to this day.

Below is an image of an original Nina Ricci dress from 1966 and one we currently have in store which is very similar in style.

1966 dress by Nina Ricci

Our dress is by Robert Strong for the department store B. Siegel Company in Detroit. The fabric is a slightly quilted cream brocade which is decorated with a pearl, bead and rhinestone trim.
The mermaid shaped skirt is ultra flattering.
This two-piece gown would be ideal for a Winter wedding. It has all the glamorous touches that are typical of the 1960's.

Our fabulous gown is available now in store or on Open For Vintage

Spotlight on Vintage: Sabiens of Boston Asymmetric Evening Gown

This is a striking hot pink satin early 1950's cocktail dress with fabulous tailoring. It is an asymmetrical one shouldered gown with attached wrap around peplum. The peplum has tulle underneath to give it structure. The bodice is a neat fit with boning and a side zip. The skirt is a tailored pencil fit, with a slight train at the back. This dress is remarkably similar to the advertisement pictured on the left which featured in Vogue dated Feb 15th 1951. The advert was for Dana, a Parisian Perfume company featuring supermodel of the day Jean Patchett!

We don't know if the designer of the dress in the advert and our dress were the same, it's probably more likely that the dress in the Vogue advert was a couture piece and ours was an homage to it.
It does have the label of the department store in which it was sold which was "Sabiens Boston".

Our vintage gown also reminds me of the iconic one shoulder pink dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in How To Marry A Millionaire

If you want to try on our Sabiens 1950's pink gown call 01 6111842 or email info@dirtyfabulous.com to book your appointment.

Or pop over to Open For Vintage to buy it right now!!!

Spotlight on Vintage: Saint Laurent Vintage Floral Dress

We're all familiar with the brand YSL or Yves Saint Laurent, it's synonymous as one of the largest, luxury brands of our time.
Yves Saint Laurent was formed in 1961 and their ready to wear collection was labelled Saint Laurent Rive Gauche.
Our gorgeous water colour floral print dress is from this same label.

It has a spectacular Bardot neckline that's all the rage now. This fabulous number is a 1980's dress disguised as a 1950's one but without seeing the label it would be hard for someone to guess the era.
The print itself has soft pastel tones that are reminiscent of Monet's water lilies paintings.
Did you know that a few years ago Yves Saint Laurent re-branded their clothing back to Saint Laurent? It caused a bit of a stir in the fashion world but they did keep the YSL logo for their cosmetics and accessories.

This stunning designer dress was be an incredible addition to any vintage mavens wardrobe.
It's available to buy in store or on Open For Vintage. You lucky gals!!!
