Little Black Dress Through The Decades

"One is never over-dressed or under-dressed with a Little Black Dress." —Karl Lagerfeld .... as the head designer of Chanel, a brand synonymous with a monochrome pallet, he should know what he's talking about!

Now, it's no secret that here at Dirty Fabulous we're HUGE fans of colour, but even we return, over and over again to our old reliable friend.... black.
There's a reason that we're all drawn to black at times, it just looks too darn good making it the ultimate fallback.
Feeling a bit bleuch? Wear some black.
Feeling totally rockin' and want to knock their socks off! Wear some black.
Want to look elegant? Wear some black.
Want to look sexy? Wear some black.
Not sure what to wear to a work event or wedding? How about black?
Need something age appropriate? Yup, you guessed it... the answer's wear something black!

The little black dress will continue to be one of the most reliable and fabulous friends you could find in a wardrobe. Is it time that you added another LBDBFF to your collection?
We have travelled through the decades to show you the finest vintage LBD'S to inspire you...

How to add a splash of colour to your wardrobe

If you are anything like me you probably have a section in your wardrobe dedicated solely to black!
Even though I'm an avid fan of colour I'll often turn to my old reliable black clothes when either the weather or my mood is a bit on the gloomy side!

For some, black is the running theme of their wardrobe and I'm here to say "introduce a little colour".
Ease yourself into it gently, make like the ladies of those bygone eras and add a navy glove, nude hat or cream shoe.

Then once you are comfortable really start to mix it up! Team that little black dress with a pair of 1950's cobalt blue gloves, or a 1940's fuchsia pink hat or a 1960's patent mustard bag.

When you're really in the swing of things you can play around with pattern. Wear a 1950's floral scarf with your black pencil dress for instant panache or a tartan jacket for a fashion edge.
Go mad and throw on some red and white polka dots with a slick of red lipstick and you are on to an instant winner!

Dirty Fabulous is a treasure trove of colour and below is just a snippet of the vivacious hats, gloves and bags that we have in stock along with some images to show how accessories would have been worn originally.
