Eeeeeek!!!It's the moment you've all been waiting for! 

Our stock from New York 

is here and is looking appropriately Dirty Fabulous! 

We're busy busy sorting all the gorgeous pieces. 

I'm like a child at Christmas opening all the packages, Ooooing and Aaaahhing my way through the day, it's also fitting that we're listening to some Christmas classics as we work! 

Too early? We don't think so, we're like busy little elves making sure that our lovely customers have lots of amazing dresses and jewels to get them through the festive period. 

(Rest assured, we won't subject our customers to our premature Christmas cheer just yet!)

We reopen next Tuesday the 1st of November, it's going to be hectic but we can't wait. We're fully booked all of next week, we have some appointments still available for the week of the 8th of November. We're New York bound to source more beautiful wedding gowns, flirty proms, glamorous cocktail dresses and all the bejeweled accessories you Dirty Fabulous ladies will need for the festive period ahead!

We will be closed from Sunday the 16th of October and will be reopening on Tuesday the 1st of November with all of our new goodies.
The week of Tuesday the 1st is fully booked already, so if you want to take a peek at our new stock we have availability from Tuesday the 8th of November.

1970s Goddess Glamour Style!

Pictured below is the lovely Bebhinn on her recent  wedding day.

Bebhinn looked stunning in a 1970s cream plunging Goddess dress, with  matching chiffon cape. Her glamorous look was topped off with a  1940s lace and crystal headpiece.

1920's Flapper Fashion and the Modern Uptake!

The 1920's were an exciting time for fashion. Corsets began to loosen, skirts became shorter and in a break away from the matronly style of the Victorians dresses became downright scandalous! 

The preferred female form was svelte during this era with ample busted women even going as far as strapping their busts down.

"The Flapper" was a term coined to reflect women who pioneered this fashion and revolutionised women's roles in society.

Flappers partied at jazz clubs, they smoked, drank and dated openly and frequently. It was the Flapper who and began the trend for women working outside the home. What would we have done without these redefining, show stopping ladies!!!

Original vintage dresses from the 1920s are delicate and rare. They were made of silk chiffon's, velvet's and silks and nearly always heavily embellished with glass beads, crystals and rhinestones. It was the weight of this beading that meant the flapper dress looked outstanding in the jazz clubs and gave a gorgeous swing during the dance moves. But unfortunately it's mostly because of the weight of this beading that most flapper dresses have not survived over time.

If you love the flapper style you do have options! Many designers have taken inspiration from this rebellious time and we can see flapper style dresses making their way on to the high street.

Kate Moss and Drew Barrymore are recent celebrity fans of this fashion movement.

If you desire an original flapper dress from the 1920s it's worth baring a few things in mind:

• Dress sizes will be smaller. The largest size will probably be a size 8 and most dresses will have little or no openings, they will simply need to be slipped on over the head.
• These are not dresses that can be worn often. They are super delicate as they are nearly 100 years old. They will look amazing for one or two outings. After that they can be used as display pieces.
• They will be more expensive than later vintage eras due to their age and how rare they are.

We are very lucky in Dirty Fabulous to have an outstanding cream silk, fully embellished Flapper dress that is in utterly gorgeous condition for it's age.

This dress would make a divine wedding dress or formal occasion dress. It is the ultimate one of a kind party dress!

This fabulous piece of fashion history is a size 6-8 and costs €1200

Above are just a few snaps from the vintage fashion show, organised as part of the Dublin Burlesque Festival.

We had the pleasure of styling the glamorous models along side other vintage enthusiasts; Horse & June, Jenny Vander and Hayworth.

Those in attendance enjoyed afternoon tea while the models sashayed through the restaurant in delicious vintage attire!

The fantastic Bugle Babes entertained for the remainder of the afternoon, giving a super 1940s vibe to a rainy 

Sunday in Dublin.

A huge congratulations to Epiphany for organizing such a wonderful event, we were delighted to be apart of it and are looking forward to the Second Dublin Burlesque Festival already!

1950s Vintage Day in aid of charity Age Action on Saturday 1st of October

Now here's a lovely idea for a Saturday and all for a very good cause!

A 1950's Vintage day has been organised by the charity Age Action to celebrate ESB Electric Ireland's Positive Aging Week & International Day of Older Persons.

The day begins with The Fox Trot, a gentle stroll around St. Stephen’s Green, down Dawson Street and  finishes in Trinity College with an In The Mood Swing Dance Afternoon Tea Party.

Wear your best classic clothing from the 1950’s & immerse in a day of pure, exclusive vintage entertainment.  Grandparents are encouraged to wheel their baby grandchildren in vintage prams and old style bikes i.e. High Nellies would be very welcome.

 

 The Irish Veteran and Vintage Car Club will lead the way with their collection of vintage cars.  The walk will start around St. Stephen’s Green, through Dawson Street and end at Front Square Trinity College where we will continue the festivities throughout the afternoon.

When: Saturday 1st October 2011,

Where: The Foxtrot starts at St. Stephen’s Green.  Meeting point is at Bandstand, in St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2 at 2.30pm

What: Dress in your finest cloths from the 1950s and join us for our Foxtrot and Swing Dance Afternoon Tea Party.  Tea/Coffee, sandwiches and pastries followed by all the fun of  Swing.  Lots of prizes to be won the day.  Including a super gift voucher for Dirty Fabulous.

 Tea Party will be held in the Dining Hall, Trinity College, Dublin 2 between 4pm to 6pm (registration is essential – see below).

Price: €10 per person which includes Afternoon Tea, live entertainment and Swing Dancing with lots of prizes on the day.

All are very welcome to this event – Grandparents, parents and children.
